Halfway Down The Stairs is a cover song by Amy Lee featured on Muppets: The Green Album.[1] The original song first appeared on The Muppets Show in episode 110 and was sung by "Robin the Frog".[2] The song is based upon lyrics from an A.A Milne poem.
Amy first revealed on her Twitter in September 2009 that she covered the song:

Remember the Nightmare Before Christmas covers CD last year? They are making another one, this time its Muppet songs... When they asked me if I wanted to do a song, I thought it was a really cool idea but I didn't think there would be anything that fit me... but right before saying no, I went online and listened to all the songs just in case anything sparked, and I found something... so Will Hunt (guy I did Sally's Song with) and I went completely crazy with it and it is really different and, I think, REALLY cool... I thought it was going to come out this year but I've just been told its been pushed to spring, April I think... so well have to wait a little bit for it, but I think its worth it. ;) I'm really excited about it![3] |

Amy's version has electro-pop elements, a big influence on the initial stages of Evanescence's third album.[4] She said the cover song served as "an appetizer" for the band's third album that was originally intended to be released in 2010.[1] However, it was delayed because Wind-Up Records rejected the material recorded in the first recording sessions.
The song, along with the cover album, was expected to be released in early 2010,[1] but it was pushed back to 2011.
The song was produced by Will "Science" Hunt and Amy Lee. He is credited for programming, whereas she is credited for playing organ.[5]
In a 2011 interview, Amy explained why she picked up this song to cover:

When it came to picking a Muppets song to do for this record, there was really no pressure. I went with the really obscure one because I always loved Robin the Frog. The whole experience was really cool.[6] |

Original Chart Performance
The original sequence of the song was refilmed for different international versions of The Muppets Show. The song became a popular single which reached the Top Ten in England's music charts and it's success resulted in an appearance on Top of the Pops which it was refilmed again for.
