Rock band statunitense che fu fondata nei tardi anni '60 a Chicago con il nome The Tradewinds. A partire dal 1975, l'anno in cui il cantante Tommy Shaw si unì al gruppo, gli Styx cominciarono un'evoluzione musicale che li portò sempre più verso il classico AOR, pubblicando un successo dietro l'altro. Raggiunsero il culmine del successo nel 1980 con Paradise Theatre.

Questo è quello che il cantante dei Styx, James Young, ha detto sugli Evanescence:

Domanda: Io so che vai in tour regolarmente con i REO Speedwagon, ma se potessi andare in tour con un'altra band quale potrebbe essere? Risposta: Gli Evanescence sono una band che suona molto simile ai Styx. Hanno fatto molte delle cose che ci hanno reso famosi — la voce armoniosa con pesanti chitarre di supporto. Hanno venduto 4 milioni di copie, ma come noi, non ricevono elogi dalla critica. Quando i Creed stavano assieme, pensavo che avessero il senso della melodia eppure il potere delle chitarre stava ancora li. Ce ne sono due per te.
