The Evanescence Reference talk:Community Portal

From The Evanescence Reference

There's a lot of good stuff here, but if we really want to be an "authorative reference" rather than just another fanpage, perhaps we should cite more sources. I mean, "Amy says" may be enough for some, but if we could say things like "Amy says in (wherever, whenever)" it would make us more of an authoritive reference. --Teddywithfangs 14:24, 22 December 2006 (PST)

Categories

Q: Have you considered the creation of categories like songs, people, fan sites?

A: Well, every song has its own page, and every person affiliated with Evanescence (past or present) has their own page. Perhaps I'm not understanding the question? As for Fan Sites, I just made a new page. List away! --DhammaSeeker 09:46, 6 August 2006 (PDT)

Q2: When I asked for Categories... I ask for the MediaWiki Feature Categories, that allows you organize the pages in a better way, where as I know, MediaWiki automatically generates a list of what pages are in the category XYZ, and you don't need to modify the Category page each time you add a page to it. I see you created the Songs pages which could work anyway. --J Aroche 01:26, 9 August 2006 (GMT -6:00)

I have created (and I will) a few categories and I'm gonna organize every article. Some of the categories I've created are these: Category:Band members, Category:Discography. (You can find another at the bottom of the articles. Inside this categories you can find another categories, for example..

I've created two templates...Template:Evanescence and Template:Songs.

Contributing Communities

Looking over the history of the Contributing Communities section, it appears there have been attempts to arrange the links according to individual favoritism. I have alphabetized the links by website name. Who contributed is unimportant; only what is contributed matters. XERXES_II 12:00, 31 December 2006 (PST)

I also just added protection to the page. If anyone has additions or deletions to the Contributing Communities section or edits to the rest of the page, please contact me. Thanks for the alphabetization, XERXES_II. --DhammaSeeker 12:22, 31 December 2006 (PST)

Bio

Hey.. I think we must add to the Evanescence article, the biography, a long biography

Spamming? Please read this, Dhamma, Ivvanescence, %%Laura%%,

Well.. i don't think it's spamming, but i didn't know how else to call it..

I've been watching there's a lot of users (curiously with six characters, random numbers and letters)... They've been editing the pages, specially the songs, editing the links to the songs, and the ending of the page... example

*[http://evanescencereference.info/music/DemoCD_files/Evanescence%20-%20Demo%20CD%20Alt%20Takes%20-%20Haunted%20(Radio%20Edit).mp3 Haunted (Demo #1) - Listen]

changed by

*[http://evanescencereference.info/music/DemoCD_files/Evanescence - Demo CD Alt Takes - Haunted (Radio Edit).mp3 Haunted (Demo #1) - Listen]

and at the ending i applied the same format to the songs, and these persons (or, can i say this person?) have been changing it from (as for example)

== Guitar Tabs & Sheet Music == *[http://evanescencereference.info/music/sheet/Haunted.pdf Piano sheet music with guitar tabs] == Notes and References == {{Ref}}

{{Evanescence}} [[Category:Fallen songs]] [[Category:Anywhere but Home songs]]

to

== Guitar Tabs

So i recommend semi-block the pages, i mean, no new users can edit pages unless permission by dhammaseeker, previously mailed, or discussed (i think that's a great idea, make a special page for permissions requests)... That's my idea, i dunno if u agree me...

What do u think?

A list of the users:

I think there's more

Please, check them out.. The recent changes, they're there.. please check their IP's, or something... thanks

--Gerard armando 17:45, 20 June 2007 (PDT)

All of the users listed above (along with the last known IP) have been blocked. Thanks for the heads up! --DhammaSeeker 08:43, 29 June 2007 (PDT)

I just disabled edits except for users who are sysops. I made the last few humans to make edits sysops, but if you are new and would like to become a sysop, please contact me. --DhammaSeeker 12:05, 2 July 2007 (PDT)

I know on Wikipedia, admins can set up pages so that they can't be edited by newly registered members. Is that possible on this wiki, or would that even be helpful?

Spam Prevention Measures

Wow guys this situation drives me crazy. I just made my second block within one and a half month. Something has to be done in order to disallow irrelevant people-spammers to access and modify the pages, or even create new. I just deleted a new page that was advertising a site, totally unrelated to Evanescence. I don't know if something like this can be done in wiki, but I suggest we put a "quiz" with basic questions about Evanescence before the registration. It's one way to prevent people who are not fans from registering to the EvRef. I don't know, something has to be done. --gt 14:22, 21 February 2008 (PST)

I'm not sure it's possible... Well.. that's a reason why we (the admins) exist... Anyway, we haven't had that much spamming since several moths ago... $#!¬... I remember when the only admin was Wade, and there were robots... editing links, adding links, erasing text... it was horrible... --Gerard Armando 18:27, 21 February 2008 (PST)
