Nine Inch Nails is a band that heavily influenced Amy Lee through her teenage years and when starting Evanescence.[1] In an interview with Rolling Stone on April 1, 2004, she says that their album, The Downward Spiral, helped get her through the hard times:[2]
Amy mentioned that Nine Inch Nails influenced her when writing Evanescence's second album, 2006's The Open Door, due to their use of homemade sounds.[3]
In 2010, she cited Nine Inch Nails as one of the inspirations for the sound of the self-titled album during its early sessions.[4] She aimed to create a "rhythmically driven record" that blurred the line between organic and synthetic sounds. However, the label scrapped the initial album.
In an interview with Metal Hammer on May 23, 2017, Amy included the same album in her list of "The 10 Records That Changed My Life" in the category "The Album I Wish I Made Is...":[5]
On August 18, 2018, Amy took part in a podcast with Lean Forward specifically discussing Nine Inch Nails in detail.[6]
