When I'm Gone is a song from Body Count's sixth studio album, Carnivore, featuring Amy Lee. The album was released on March 6, 2020.[1] Body Count's vocalist, Ice-T, mentioned that they may perform it live with Amy on The Tonight Show sometime, no date has yet been confirmed.[2]
In an interview with Loudwire published on February 28, 2020, this is what Amy said about the song and collaboration.
I am so excited about this collaboration - I felt like I had to fight for it. It was one of these things that like, somebody told somebody else, told somebody else that it'd be cool if I might be on it, and I was like 'What? Give me the track!'. It's one of those things, you know, I love the idea of collaboration, especially when it's something really different than what I do. Because to me those are the collaborations that I love, when you see two artists come together that are not the same, and by using the two of them it creates a new sound, but that's also something that doesn't always work. You can't just mash any two things up, you know? So I'm like 'Just let me hear the song', and knowing that it's very, very possible that I'm not going to be able to find myself within it, and it's not going to work, but I heard the song and I loved the song! Immediately had an idea and the meaning. I don't want to give stuff away because it's not my music, so I can't, but the meaning really, really spoke to me. It's something that I feel deeply and talk about deeply, it's about loss and not wasting time with the people that you love, and that just means so much to me. Anyway, I had an idea, but they were in a hurry and it's was like the end of tour and I was like 'I'm almost home'. It was just one of those things where they were like 'We've already ran out of time' and I was just like 'Please I'm just going to send you what I was going to do', and then they got really excited about it actually, and it actually ended up working out just because I didn't take no for an answer. I'm really excited about how it turned out, I can't wait for people to hear it. I don't feel like it's fair for me to give too much away, but it's right around the corner. I'm SO stoked about it![3] |
