Feeding the Dark is the fifth track from Evanescence's fifth studio album, The Bitter Truth. The piano featured on the bridge is the same Amy played in the clip the band posted on their Instagram stories on September 30, 2020. The song was originally worked on the Lillywhite sessions for Evanescence in 2010, but scrapped at their former label's behest along with the material recorded that year. A decade later, it was chosen to be reworked for The Bitter Truth.

Amy talked about the song and the other two Evanescence outtakes that made it to The Bitter Truth in an interview with a Argentinian journal:

Songs like "Yeah Right", "Feeding the Dark" and "Take Cover", we started working on while we were writing for the Evanescence album, but for some reason we didn't finish them, we didn't feel like they were ready. I would never have said this then because it broke my heart to have left them out of that album, but now I see that they had to wait because we wouldn't have been able to record them in this way at that time. This is something new. Those songs needed the band of the future to sound so good, they are heavier, I like them a lot.[1]

Lyrics

Follow me under
Low as we are
Swallow your hunger
Feeding this dark
Feeding this dark

Do you remember
What made the scar?
And how deep will you cut?
Seeking my heart
Seeking my heart

Well, you know that you can't hide
And you know that you can't lie
'Cause I know all your secrets
And I won't let you forget

Follow me under (Follow me under)
Low as we are (Follow me)
Hate is the liar
Feeding this dark
Feeding this dark

Well, you know that you can't hide
And you know that you can't lie
'Cause I know all your secrets
And I won't let you forget

Don't look away
Let the light pour down on our darkest day
If we run from ourselves
We will run forever

Well, you know that you can't hide (You can't hide)
And you know that you can't lie (You can't lie)
'Cause we know all your secrets (Know all your secrets)
And I won't let you forget
