Amy's description of the song:
Your Star is the eleventh track from Evanescence's second studio album, The Open Door.
Amy's inspiration for writing the song:

During the bridge, the background choir sings "Alma surdo, loucura, onde está seu alma? Loucura, todo sozinho" (Portuguese with some grammatical mistakes) which tries to mean "Deaf soul, madness, where is its soul? Madness, all alone" in English. In correct Portuguese it would be "Alma surda, loucura, onde está sua alma? Loucura, toda sozinha."
In an interview with EvanescenceWebsite.com, Amy said the song was mostly written during the Fallen Tour:

From a The Sun interview:

The song was chosen to be reworked for Synthesis because it was one of the songs of the band's catalog that has "epic moments" that Amy wanted to expand on, mentioning it "has that very classically-inspired piano arpeggio that goes into this crazy place."

About the Synthesis reworking of the song, Amy said:

General information

Written by: A. Lee and T. Balsamo

"...the mechanical lights of Lisbon...... ;)"
(AmyLeeEV - Twitter)[1]

Your Star is the eleventh track from Evanescence's second studio album, The Open Door. Amy's inspiration for writing the song:

Vin1.jpg A couple of years ago, I felt so alone that I was dreading going on tour. We had just arrived in Lisbon and I was in my room feeling jet-lagged, weird and tired. I had just been home where I could see the stars at night. But when I looked out the hotel window in Lisbon, I couldn't see anything because we were in this big city. That was the last straw. I felt so depressed, I just started singing this song.[2] Vin2.jpg

In an interview with EvanescenceWebsite.com, Amy said the song was mostly written during the Fallen Tour:

Vin1.jpg Most of Your Star was written sitting in a hotel window sill in Portugal during the Fallen tour, just singing to myself.[3] Vin2.jpg

From a The Sun interview:

Vin1.jpg “I remember sitting at five in the morning and we’re laughing and writing Your Star . . . “It’s got this dual piano/guitar solo thing going on. It’s so fun and so hard to play.”[4] Vin2.jpg

It's guitarist Terry Balsamo's favorite song on the album.[5]

Your Star was confirmed to be reworked and included on the orchestral album, Synthesis, when the track list was revealed through the album's pre-order on September 15, 2017. Four months prior to that, the band posted a video to their Instagram account in which the orchestra was recording the song.[6] This version was performed live for the first time on October 14, 2017 at the Pearl Concert Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Synthesis Live tour. Watch a performance of the song here.

The song was chosen to be reworked for Synthesis because it was one of the songs of the band's catalog that has "epic moments" that Amy wanted to expand on, mentioning it "has that very classically-inspired piano arpeggio that goes into this crazy place."[7]

About the Synthesis reworking of the song, Amy said:

Vin1.jpg Synthesis is said to merge orchestral elements and electronic elements- what is the weirdest instrument/ object that you used in the reimagining of the tracks?

Will was using a vintage Roland vocoder (SVC- 350) for some beat processing and it accidentally began picking up some distorted and very otherworldly sounding Mexican radio station’s frequency at the end of “Your Star”. It added a subtle level of authentic creepiness to the song that we couldn’t have if we had been trying to. Some mistakes are my favourite parts.[8]

Lyrics

I can't see your star
I can't see your star
Though I patiently waited, bedside,
For the death of today
I can't see your star
The mechanical lights of Lisbon
Frightened it away

And I'm alone now
Me and all I stood for
We're wandering now
All in parts in pieces, swim lonely
Find your own way out

I can't see your star
I can't see your star
How can the darkness feel so wrong?

And I'm alone now
Me and all I stood for
We're wandering now
All in parts in pieces, swim lonely
Find your own way out

So far away
It's growing colder without your love
Why can't you feel me calling your name?
Can't break the silence
It's breaking me

[Alma surda, loucura] all my fears [onde está sua alma?]
[Loucura, toda sozinha] turn to rage

And I'm alone now
Me and all I stood for
We're wandering now
All in parts and pieces, swim lonely
Find your own way out now

And nothing worth fighting for
We're wandering now
All in parts and pieces, swim lonely
Find your own way out
