General information

This song was performed at the show on May 7th, 1999 in Vino's Bar. Stephanie Pierce performed the background vocals. In April 2009, copies of the show were sold on eBay. Users on YouTube have mistakenly titled this song "Catherine" which is actually an unreleased song that was never recorded.[1] Users have also given the unknown title the unofficial name of "You Can't Kill the Me In You". A fan discography list on EvBoard in 2004 listed an unfinished song titled Me & You/Me In You as an outtake from Evanescence EP.[2]

The I'm not afraid of those who kill their body, For still they cannot kill their soul line is probably a reference to Matthew 10:28 from the Bible:

Vin1.jpg And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Vin2.jpg

When asked about the song on EvClub, Amy said this:[3]

Vin1.jpg I can’t bring myself to watch it, the way we sounded back then makes me cringe! I know what song you’re talking about though, I don’t even think it ever had a real name. It was a half baked song that just didn’t go anywhere because it wasn’t very good. Back then we would just kind of play whatever we had live, even if it was still sort of being worked on. It wasn’t like we were famous and stuff would end up all over the internet . . . whoops.

-Amy

...ah, memories of playing shows for free pizza...

Ben was asked about the song on Tumblr, and he didn't remember the song title.[4]

Lyrics

I know a secret
Something still belongs to me
I'm not afraid of those who kill the body
For still they cannot kill the soul

You may beat me down
Just denying the truth
But you can't kill the me in you

Dreams are illusions
They fade away before we can catch them
Promises may be broken dreams we'll forget
But what's birthed in you cannot die

You may beat me down
Just denying the truth
But you can't kill the me in you

[You may beat me down]
[Just denying the truth]
[But you can't kill the me in you] You may beat me down just denying the truth
But you can't kill the me in you [You may beat me down just denying the truth]
[But you can't kill the me in you] You may beat me down just denying the truth
But you can't kill the me in you [You may beat me down just denying the truth]
[But you can't kill the me in you] You may beat me down just denying the truth
But you can't kill the me in you [You may beat me down just denying the truth]
[But you can't kill the me in you]
