Originally recorded on the [[Whisper EP]] in 1998. There are currently 6 versions of the song. A demo version of Whisper contains sound clips from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack.  are the clips. This version begins with a sample intro from "O Verona" and "Death Scene". There are a few versions of the song floating around the internet and various bootleg discs (see [[Fake]]). One version has a burst of noise before the vocals in the intro sample (at approx 0:29). Another version does not have this burst of noise, but has distinct 'skipping' sounds that appear after the 0:30 mark

In pre-releases of the demo on ''Origin'', Origin and Whisper are separate tracks but there is no gap of silence between track 1 and 2, almost appear merged as the same track.


According to many sources the line is grammatically incorrect, but Amy Lee maintains that she's a hell of a Thai chef.
In the ''Fallen'' version, at the end the choir sings "''Servatis a periculum, servatis a maleficum''," which is roughly translated from Latin as "''Save us from danger, save us from evil''". As with all the other choir parts throughout the album, the choir on "Whisper" was written and arranged by Amy. [[The Millenium Choir]] performed the vocals, and it was recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood. Whisper received local radio play in Little Rock. It was the #1 most requested new single for more than two weeks on the radio station KLEC "Lick" 106.3 FM.[2] According to Bigwig Enterprises, the song was Origin's lead single.[2]

The We The Living Vol. 3 version is the Sound Asleep EP version without the reversed intro and sound clip from the movie. It also has an extended drum outro. The Post-Sound Asleep demo is mostly the same as the We The Living version, only without the extended drum outro.

The Automata Magazine 3.0 version is the Origin version of Whisper and the song "Origin" merged into one track.

In pre-releases of the demo on Origin, Origin and Whisper are separate tracks but there is no gap of silence between track 1 and 2, almost appear merged as the same track.

In the Fallen version, at the end the choir sings "Servatis a periculum, servatis a maleficum," which is roughly translated from Latin as "Save us from danger, save us from evil". As with all the other choir parts throughout the album, the choir on "Whisper" was written and arranged by Amy. The Millenium Choir performed the vocals, and it was recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood. The same choir voiced the rest of Fallen, and later Lacrymosa on The Open Door.[3]

While answering questions from fans in an EvClub interview, a question comes up that asks "Can you still relate to the songs you wrote years ago?" Amy's response about this song is:

But lyrically it doesn't hold a ton of meaning for me anymore 'cause I'm not really at a very dark place in my life at all right now. I'm at a pretty positive place. A part of Whisper was played by Amy in Overture, the intro song on Evanescence's fourth studio album, Synthesis[4];

Amy discussed the song in a Kerrang! cover story about the 20th anniversary of Fallen:

Vin1.jpg “I love how dramatic it is! And there’s a place for that. That was what we thought was our hit when I was graduating high school. When we did have a few gigs, that was our opener. We were playing shows, and I was like, ‘This is us!’ It’s very epic, very dramatic. No wonder I was so nervous getting onstage – I was like, ‘How do I live up to this ridiculousness!?’ (Laughs) So, when I get to the end of Fallen, my overwhelming final thesis is I’m so grateful. It is something bigger than me. I wouldn’t change anything about it. I had to go through that pain. We all have different lives that we have lived with this soundtrack being part of it. I’m just grateful to be part of that and I think I’m able to fully appreciate Fallen now in a way that I wasn’t previously able to. This is a huge gift.”[5] Vin2.jpg
